Tim Exile: I think I probably hear things
just in the way that anybody else does but I also hear the potential. I hear potential in the sounds around. I don’t think I hear anything different. I just hear loads of possibilities. I’m Tim Exile. I’m a musician and a technologist. I make music using instruments that allow
me to improvise from the sounds around me. The first impression walking into a data center
is pretty overwhelming. There’s all sorts of sounds: you’ve got
the server fans, you’ve got all these winking lights, you’ve got all these kind of corridors. You get the sense that you know, like, big
stuff is happening there. It’s like a hub of human activity. We’re
here at the IBM client center. I’ve actually found one particular fan that
just makes a really nice pure tone. I’m gonna take that fan sound and I’m
gonna live sample it and turn it into a bass line. The sounds that we find around us are perfect. They haven’t yet been recorded, they haven’t
yet been treated or processed. They’re like raw material, but it’s kind
of like it’s the sound of life itself. We’re in this really exciting age now where
computers can see, computers can hear, computers can think, and computers can make. We’re at such an early stage of this that
I don’t think anyone really understands the full potential.

The sample pack has too much dead air / gaps. I have not looked through them all but at least one has no data – IBM_RemixIT_ Alt Bass Sub_IBM_z13s.wav
