(calming music) – [Dan] Hey, this is Dan from the Verge. I’m here in New York City where Microsoft just wrapped its fall
product showcase press event. They launched a bunch of new stuff here. And two of the things that were announced are right here in front of me. You got the new Surface
Pro 6 and a Surface Laptop. Now, these look really familiar. Basically, this is the
same Surface Pro design that we’ve seen since 2015 now. But it does have a new finish, which I’ll talk about in a minute. And then we got the Surface Laptop, which is basically the exact same hardware and design as before. But they are improved in a
number of different ways. And mostly it’s on the inside. Inside these you now have quad-core eighth generation processors. The Surface Pro 6 has longer battery life. Microsoft’s claiming up to 13 1/2 hours. And on the Surface Laptop,
Microsoft is claiming even longer battery life
and a lot more power than on a prior generation models. Visually what you’ll see here is that these are now available
in a new black finish. This is the Surface Pro 6, is
available in this matte black. It kinda has a different
texture than the silver one. But obviously it’s black. It’s actually really nice. You can see it’s not collecting
my fingerprints at all, which is something that black
computers do really easily. This is really clean, it’s
actually really well down. Exact same hinge as before. Same thing on the Surface Laptop. You’ve got a matte black finish. Now you can tell the
difference between these. The Surface Laptop is made of aluminum. The Surface Pro 6 is magnesium. So they actually have a little
bit different of a finish. The Surface Laptop’s a little smoother, a little maybe almost glossier. But it shows fingerprints
a little bit more unfortunately as a result. Now one thing that you will notice as well that’s not available on
either machine is USB-C ports. These are the exact same
ports that are available on the Surface Pro before as
well as the Surface Laptop. So you’ve got single USB-A
port and a mini-display port and a headphone jack. Same thing right here on
the side of the Surface Pro. And then you’ve got
Microsoft Surface Connector. Now they do sell the
adaptor that let’s you plug into the Connector and add a USB-C port. But it costs like 80
bucks, is kinda silly. It’s kinda surprising that Microsoft didn’t just put in USB-C port on these. Now both of these are gonna
be available real soon. You can start pre orders
for them starting today. The Surface Pro 6, it’s
got a new lower price. It starts at 899, used to be 999. And I believe the Surface
Laptop is at 999 as well. There’s also a ton more other stuff here. There’s a new Surface Studio
we’re gonna be checking out. Microsoft just released
some new headphones. Like really? We’re gonna check those out as well. So, stay tuned for more.

Wow looks similar to my MacBook Pro w/black finish. No usb-c adapter included and $80 on the side. Following the footsteps of Apple marketing tactics. I rather stay with my Thinkpad t on windows os.

They could have redesign the whole thing but that would cost them above their planned budget . This upgrade is not worth it at all they just announced a new colour and a new gen of intel possessor . Don't get me wrong I like the products or Microsoft in general but they could have done something better .

Appears we're all missing the mark on criticism here. Microsoft, like Apple has begun selling us the same product with a new title. Innovation appears to something tech manufacturers have abandoned. They all appear to take the same approach, and hope you don't realize they didn't do anything other than make the product they made last year, or the year before, or the year before a little faster. Sadly no one you know will ever know you bought a new thing unless you tell them, because your new thing looks like your old thing. Smh.

An onboard USB-C is one of the few ports that the Surface Pro is in dire need of. It really should have been present in the last iteration of the Surface Pro and every iteration moving forward it's proving more and more necessary (without the need of a silly, overpriced, and impractical for travel dongle). Maybe we will have some luck with the Surface Book 3? I guess we will see. I do love the new finish and the Surface Pro remains one of the best 2-in-1 ultra portable form factors in the market. The competition is starting to get fierce in the 2-in1 space, but the Surface Pro 3 and onward was the spark!

For everyone complaining about a lack of USB-C, how many of you have cables with USB-C on both ends? The point of USB-C is that it's great for accessories and other small devices, but the computer you connect them to doesn't need to have USB-C. The Surface has a completely different kind of magnetic connector for getting power and connecting to a dock.

Why is everyone so triggered about USB-C? I'm in college and I'm yet to see any students using USB-C. And on the rare occasion when they are… its the traditional USB… with a dongle. Just because Microsoft isn't conforming to Apple's Donglebook Pro, isn't a reason to be so triggered about this. USB-C is the future. I get it. But few mainstream people use it yet. I would have preferred USB-C on this too… but with a traditional USB port also.

I honestly don't mind not having usb type given that Surface Pro only has one usb port which I rather that be Type A, since my mouse, keyboard, external hard drive, phone connection cables are all USB Type A. It would be nice if they could replace the charging port with USB C though but has to be one of magnetic connector ones. But that would mean, existing $200 surface docks and charging cables will then need to be retired, not sure how people would feel about that.

Apple needs a competitor to this surface pro. Their new iPad Pro is AWESOME but it doesn’t run Mac OS. That’s what’s stopping people from using their iPads instead of MacBooks. But guessing that’s what they want to happen.

The black coloring actually costs 150€ extra … oh and also win 10 home instead of pro because why not be forced to download updates

I got the base model black surface pro. Don’t really care or need usb c. If you don’t really need usb c don’t be deterred from this gen!
