Niel Degrasse Tyson has said that this solar flare thing you're talking about is overhyped… especially as it pertains to the one a couple years ago. That Solar Flare wasn't close, but the news did… what the news does. Niel says that while a Solar Flare COULD hit the Earth, it's not the Doomsday scenario people say it is.

And the thing he is talking about, its especially true in this generation. And i believe this is the main cause of somany anxieties and depression. I have the exact same issue where i will always think miles away first. And it causes so much stress for me put its the only way i feel safe operating with eventho it caused me symptoms like chronic fatigue, high tendency for anxiety or depression. And its the same reason i always listen to peterson because i want to find these keys that will help me have a life by looking deep.

Wtf is this guy on about? Is it computers? Systems? Problems? Politics? Relationships? Practical advice? Neuroscience? Suicide? He's all over the place. If I was in his course, there's no way I could tolerate this bullshit. He can't follow a consistent line of thought and he is always saying "YOU are stupid" "YOU are miserable" "YOU don't want another relationship" etc. There's no way I'd tolerate this crap from a teacher, I'd be asking for a transfer.

His story about the computer crashing was also bunkum. He is asking us to believe that at every stage of him trying to find out why the pc wasn't working, he didn't notice that all the lights were out in his house?

I also reckon we curse when our computer crashes because we are functioning in self-righteousness. We have suddenly fallen in 'The Garden of Eden' again. We are not functioning from the Holy Spirit within us by abiding in Him, (Jesus). We are functioning from the usurping spirit within us because our 'tree of knowledge' is telling us that we want something different from what we are experiencing. If instead, we can abide in 'the tree of life' by keeping oil in our lamps and being vigilant to our behaviour, then we would be less likely to crash, just as the computer did.

As my programming professor says ask the time: programming is breaking down a complex abstraction into simpler abstractions until you get it to a low enough level abstraction that you can implement it in code.

I think this really does support what JP is saying. Humans think in levels of abstraction and we use the most complex level that will allow us to understand what is going on in a certain situation.

Imperfection jarrs with our intuition of perfection. Impermanence destroys the fruits of hard labour. Change disdains our efforts. Time wipes any trace of us from the face of the earth. The universe continues. The clownish tinkering of our limited monkey brains and the continual ugly partial patching up of our "great achievements" laughs in our faces. The question is begged: WHAT IS REAL? WHY ARE WE HERE?

It's not "stupid things that primates do"…. It's research, evaluation, planning, verifying and problem solving. Too many intellectuals think that speech can move mountains and at the same time belittle those that actually do move mountains.

I wouldn't say those moves are idiotic (unless you don't know why you are doing it). Those are the kind of actions that eliminate the largest amount of possible issues. For instance, most crashes leave no lasting damage. You don't take apart your computer and replace some component first, especially, since you could have just turned it back on after it crashed. When someone gets sick you don't start by giving them chemotherapy since chemo serves to fix a very small subset of problems. It's idiotic to jump to large conclusions without a huge body of evidence (like every single computer on the block crashed or every single computer of that type crashed) and it's idiotic to jump to minute conclusions without a similarly huge body of evidence (like you tried every other solution or you have seen that every computer of this type you have ever had crashed like that).

As always, Prof. Peterson gets you thinking about the vast complexities of human existence. We are all SO lucky to be living in stable, peaceful societies where education is free, clean water is plentiful, crime and corruption are relatively low, employment is simple to come by, food is available and healthcare accessible to us all. But we take pretty much ALL of that for granted … what if any or all of it was taken away? You'd notice pretty damn fast, that's for sure.
