Releasing updates as tech. changes? Does that mean the VAX 2.0 firmware will only work with the HD500X?

Is the effects limit still 8?

I was going to buy the hd500, and now this comes out, very tempting… but I don't want to buy and have the HD500X2 come out a few months after I buy the older one.

And for a unit as heavy as these are, a built in power supply instead of the klutzy, easy to forget "wall wart" would have been a welcome update.

So Line6 is now following Apple? We'll have to upgrade our PODs once a year? I feel like I just bought the HD PRO not too long ago…. we'll see but I really like all the updates I see on the Fractal Audio Axe FX II, would be nice to see the same dedication from Line 6 for everyone who bought an HD500 or HD PRO…

Why not try and decrease the size? Why are people still being burdened with an expression pedal if they don't use one? (REMOVE IT AND MAKE A LINE6 EXPRESSION PEDAL!) Why is the display still so small? Are the developers at Line6 asleep or something?

Was wondering the same thing. Why is display so small and expression pedal is useless for my needs. I know some people use them. Make them optional.

I'd like to have a rack verstion with separate volume control knob for mixing-desk output and my fullrange speaker. so I can control my stage sound without disturbing the foh mix.
and of course integrated relay g90 with front antennas. technology is there…just put it together!

I trust it has more dsp power… this is the reality of my first suggestion to Line 6 within the first 5 minutes I spent on the HD500. BUT: 1. Nowhere does it say or give any measurement or analogy of "how much more" dsp processing power it has. 2. Why wouldn't the HD Pro get the same dsp upgrade (HD PROX?)? I am very very highly convinced this is a marketing agenda for the purpose of attempting to sap every bit of money we have for the same products.

For those talking about a Line6 expression pedal, I assume u have forgotten the EP1-L6 by Mission Engineering and Line6.

I'm a HD500 user too, and the difference is just DSP power, which only makes sense… Look at ur phones, a LOT have changed in the last 3 years…

You know ever since I bought the POD HD two months ago I log on the Line 6 website to see if there are any updates with more HD amps available, because I believe that the big flaw of these HD units is the lack of amps… And I bumped into this all new Pod HD 500x and it´s exactly what you said… same shit, with shiny lights… I don´t understand how they are offering the same product that came out 3 years ago. I hope there will be new firmware updates anytime soon… But you said it all…

Exactly Martin. I love two amps on my X3, that i still use, when i got the HD500 i really thought they will eventually sample all the same amps i had on the previous generation, up to this day they still only offer 18 amps, 1 bass amp and 3 line6 design amps… I don't believe they care to sample all the amps again, but to offer less amps for the same money of previous generation is a lame move… HDX was expected to be much more, again, another disappointment….

I believe that the smartest thing to do is buying an Axe-Fx II… but it´s way off my budget… I mean I live in the other part of the world (south South America) and I must pay 4.300 dollars to get one… Not to mention that dollars are almost forbidden in this shitty country so… I think I`ll have to do with the POD HD and wait for those updates. Lame.

If you look at 0:36 , it seems like it's still limited to 8 effect blocks. If I were you, I'd wait for the HD500X to come out, and buy the older HD500 for a much cheaper price (new or used).

You can use the HD500 without cab simulation. It won't free up an effects block, but you can still turn it off.

How about the ability to load our own Cab impulses? I still swear by the X3 in the studio and original POD for m original tone. I remember when Line6 was all about tone. I hope they come back some day.

Dear Line 6, Integrate all the features of a POD HD into a combo amp. Standardize the format of patches / presets or make it possible to convert them for cross product compatibility. Put a Bi-directional USB on the amp so the customer won't have to buy a footswitch after buying the amp to share presets or do updates. Name it the Spider V and once again rule the world of modeling amps. You're welcome.

I love my HD500, but I'd like the resources of the 500X simply because I run a lot of dual amp patches and it limits my ability to build the rig in my mind. That said, I was thinking the ability to load Impulse responses and possibly making the thing a receiver for a relay wireless system would be included. Yes, you heard that right, built in wireless. That would rock.

I'll have to say that I'm pretty upset as I just purchased a HD500 a little over a month ago. I keep hitting the DSP Limit wall. The POD is also losing presets at random. I'm past my 30 days of return. I'm interested to see how Line6 will handle this now.

I think that if Line6 was really trying to bring the Apple mantra to the table there would be a buy back incentive for consumers that bought the HD500 within 'said' amount of days prior to the release of 500X.

One simple question: Does this have MORE DSP than the HD500? I took mine back cause of the DSP limit. I'd get dual tone, gate and it would crap out if I tried to add verb. Unacceptable, since my X3 can do all that, and more. I'm not The Edge, but verb, gate, wah, volume, delay and a mod is NOT too much to ask.

If this has more than enough DSP to fulfill my needs, I'll get one in a heartbeat.

I still don't understand how all these preamps like the POD, Kemper, and Axe Fx can't invest in a higher quality screen. At least put in something like an lcd screen from a phone, even that's better than the pixelated crap that were getting from the current screens.

Um… if you have used one or own one; you would know how easy it is to hit the dsp limit. If you go dual tone, don't hope to harmonize or pitch shift one of the tones or use hardly any of the 120+ effects with it.

Put in REAL dsp chips that have some longevity and screw this planned obsolescence and milking the public crap.

I can't get too upset at the end of the day I use my hd300 as a toy. I use tube amps and good distortion pedals. However, props to theor dt25 amp which I own and use and like. The 300 has great metal sounds , nice clean sound. Bad in between sounds. But the volume spikes scaring every and all in the room. Also the screen is too small. Make it huge. Thx.

Hi there, I would like to know if I can use the expression pedal to go from one patch to another. Like in the PODX3 where we were able to have 2 different and independent tones in one footswitch, I would then use the exp pedal to go from one to the other (lets say clean to lead) just by moving my exp pedal back and forth. Thank you

The GUI looks fine anyways. It would also mean more hardware, which will indeed jack up the price even more.
If you're asking them to jump from a 2 bit LCD screen to a 16-32 bit color screen, then you're gonna need to shove a more expensive GPU in there.

I prefer they not put on unimportant features like that. It's about tone, not visuals.

They stated that it does. Keep in mind that the HD series is a serious jump in modeling technology. No offense to line 6, but I wasn't a big fan of the older PODs. They sounded a lot thinner, because it didn't have as much programming to make it sound prestine as the HD series.

I mean, either it's you complain about that or complain about it "sounding digital and not real".

I think this is exactly why they released this anyways, so you can have more headroom for effects.

Because all I have as far as amplification is a really really shitty Epiphone amp that came with my first guitar 8 years ago and some computer speakers (not the small laptop speakers. 2 satellites and a subwoofer).

Or can i even just buy a cheap cabinet to run it through?

I had a question hopefully someone on here can answer. I use a Peavey Triple X head and cab with an ibanez tube screamer, Boss Noise Gate and a tuner in front of my amp right now along with the remote switch for the peavey. I love my distortion tone but my sound for everything especially leads is very dry which is why I'm looking into effects pedals like this. My question is how can I set my tripple X and the ibanez tube screamer up with the Pod pedal to hit one footswitch and have everything switch to my desired setting without having to tap dance. Would appreciate some advice thank you.

Currently using this pod with a full marshal stack – the head is the joe satriani edition – i love all of the effects, im tweaking it alot through the computer to get everything as perfect as i can, but for whatever reason, no matter what patches i make or use, there seems to be a lack of kick to the tone? ive tested this with a different, older line 6 pod and still a lack of kick to the tone. it feels like 60% of the power / kick has been chopped away and im not sure why. im plugged into guitar in, with the amp front into the pod, just 2 cables and still the power and kick loss. best comparison would be listening to a heavy song through a laptop with no speakers, vs a comp with a few 10 inch incredible speakers lol. i mean it sounds great and all, but theres just this raw power missing from it. im on the clean channel on the amp, which is where i should be. i cant figure out what settings im missing or what im setting up wrong. i primarily play guitar solos / lead, and heavy. i love sub octave, delay, reverb, and different wahs.

As a soloist, how would this or the HD500 go sound wise with both my 1. Acoustic guitar to the 1/4" input and 2. Vocals into XLR input (seperate EQ and reverb needed for each). I'd also like to connect my 3. Roland SPD ONE kick drum pad into the AUX in (no effects or EQ needed)! Then direct to the PA speaker with 1 mono XLR lead. Would that work and sound good? Want to get rid of the mixer :).
