    read this before you make your modifications.
    make sure that ugrids is the same in both the fallout4.ini and fallout4prefs.ini. you may also want to turn fLightLODMaxStartFade=7000.0 to the default.

    These settings are the original texture upgrade and degrade distances used by me. the ones the games uses are in the preferences, but mine cause major graphic glitches later in the game.

    crashes can be prevented by keeping your computer voltage lower than you normally would for a modern video game. in windows set minimum and maximum cpu usage to 62 percent. I recently did a lets play in this channel where the game crashed on a feral ghoul while outside during the game. I have never experienced crashes inside buildings while Ive had it set to 62 percent but I did have a crash outside which I thought I had fixed. by putting the game in power saver with maximum performance as the gpu setting. I think this will allow me to play for longer with crashes. well see how long it last. In order to play with crashes set the minimum cpu usage to 42 and the maximum cpu usage to 42. One issue currently is that stairs do not work but I may have just had a glitchy savefile. It can be seen on part 2 of the intel graphics lets play. even changing maximum cpu speed to 42 will not fix all crashes still thinking of a workaround.
    if you use my level2treedistance fade setttings and audio cache settings. the game in my experience has had less crashes. this means that although these settings decrease performance you wont notice it because youll be able to play at 62 percent.

    iTextureUpgradeDistance1=1000
    iTextureUpgradeDistance0=510
    iTextureDegradeDistance1=1200
    iTextureDegradeDistance0=600
    These settings also need to be set to the default.
    graphical glitches do exist when moving toward the car near the beginning of the freedom calls mission. they don't exist for any other part of the game so far but they can be really severe. however the texture problems are probably because these weren't at the default. I'll update this post to let you know how far I get in the game and what settings may need to change. unfortunately the game still crashes sometimes for no reason. If that's nothing new then at least youll have better graphics. If not, you may not
    want to use my settings for uGridsToLoad= and
    uExterior Cell Buffer= These settings were modified to prevent the game from going through an infinite loop while loading when doing the fallout 4 loading screen instead of loading instantly from new game. I have just beaten when freedom calls.
    The only graphical glitch so far is a major graphical glitch near a pole a few feet before you enter the commonwealth. so far so good. i think i might make a lets play to check progress on the settings. ill stop uploading when I find another bug.
    latest settings
    to improve stability change these settings in fallout 4 prefs.ini
    fMeshLODLevel2FadeTreeDistance=1024.0000
    It will dramatically slow down the game but poles which were causing graphical glitches before no longer do so. However the game is much slower. not unplayable but it is a big map and I just started playing
    enhance anti-aliasing is turned on in intel graphics settings. Im not sure if this is relevant.
    These settings cause occasional freezes but so far no crashes and that is with fraps and at 62 percent cpu usage under windows power plan with enemies on screen.
    bEnableAudioCache=1
    iAudioCacheSize=64
    iMaxSizeForCachedSound=64
    change these settings under fallout4prefs.ini to allow explosions to work and to work without crashing the game.
    [NVFlex]
    bNVFlexEnable=1
    iQuality=0
    iMaxParticles2=3276
    iMaxParticles1=1600
    iMaxParticles0=600

    you got that(maybe only with "Bloody Mess" perk)? any ideas?

    you can improve framerates by applying these fixes but fallout 4 often has difficulty starting so it may not be worth it to you. when you copy and paste files to use as a symbolic link for fallout 4. when you backup the files so you can use them again. fallout 4 may not recognize the files and youll have to do a verify the integrity of game cache. This may be because of updates to fallout 4 or some other reason. GRAPHICS CORRUPTION RESOLVED AS OF 10/20/16 intel graphics card update

    crash fixes are below. Although intels 10/20/16 firmware update may also have fixed the graphical glitches.

    speed settings and an important question is asked by Benjamin reily. you can search for it under new comments. be sure to like it if you find it helpful. This way it shows up under top comments and therefore viewable on the page.

    optimizations below:

    If you do use a flash drive with ready boost in place of your harddrives cache. you may notice that after extended periods of time your computer will slow to a standstill. To prevent this flush the harddrive by unplugging it and then replugging it back into the computer. I was doing a research paper with lots of tabs which with the cache on my harddrive had never been a problem. However, doing it this way. Once memory ran out on the computer and then I got rid of the tabs. pages in chrome loaded super slow. Unplugging the flash drive and then replugging it back upped my computer back to lightning speed.

    As of 5/2/2017 my fallout 4 game doesn't crash. my character is occasionally able to go out of bounds for example in the area near the exit of diamond city. I also saw the inside of a wall once when accidentally going near it. I suspect most of the fixes for fallout 4 are because of these.
    The intel graphics card firmware update as of 10/20/16 that supports intel hd graphics 5500 and some other cards.
    Any updates by bethesda that may have fixed game crashes.
    My fixes. Having at least 30gb of harddrive space on the harddrive and disabling write caching on the drive fallout 4 uses.
    After doing that, set the minimum amount of space possible for readyboost on an ssd or usb
    stick that allows you to enable write caching on the drive. the key here is to use something you already have. an ssd isn't going to get good performance being used as a usb drive. It's much better to just use what you have lying around. my younger brother decided to upgrades the ssd in his computer but before he did that he wanted to transfer all the data from the ssd to the new ssd. when he was done with it I used the old ssd.
    Now you can set the game to high performance. In this case my profile is customized so it used 99 percent of the computers processing speed at all times. min 99 max 99. If I was to record it maybe it would crash. I also suspect it would lower my framerate. I honestly don't want to deal with uploading my entire fallout 4 playthrough. Right now I ending up at hardware town and am trying to kill demo at level 7. I still haven't talked to valentine in diamond city after I met him at the subway vault.

    Do you have the download link to this modified fallout4.ini and fallout4prefs.ini ?
    Copying the alterations from the description is a pain in the ass.

    all save files need to use same ugrids and exterior cell buffer. I discovered this when changing the settings when using the game on a new computer.

    Thank you this very much worked, I've been always downgrading the game to patch 1.3 ish from anything past and with the whole 1.10 patch on the creation club, I haven't been able to play at all with the screen tearing graphics. I think yea… it was just that one line of code: "BUseCombinedObjects=0" under [General] that I had to add but I put the whole thing just incase. Replaced the Fallout4.ini code with the description and the Fallout4pref.ini as well. Did it in both my documents folder for FO4 under "my games" and also the prefs file in my steam game just incase. Graphics screen tearing is gone and I run the game in patch 1.10 with the creation club stuff, no more downgrade patching needed now 🙂

    June 25, 2019, Fallout version 1.10.120 and this fix is still working!
    I run the game on Intel HD 5500 1GB VRAM with Intel i7-5500U (4 cores) 2.4 GHz with 8GB RAM and game now runs perfectly with about 20 FPS in Boston at day and night. I spent a week searching how to fix this but all the whole time i was searching wrongly because i thought my graphic card did not support directx 11 so yesterday i was tired and i just made a random search "How to fix Fallout 4 screen texture tearing" and this video came up first. Thx bro ur a legend.

    One question. Enabling gore makes the textures tear and the game CTDs but apart from that all is fine. How do i fix this though? How do i enable gore and still have no screen tearing? I have limited the game to use dx 11.0 and 11.1 and 10.0 and 10.1 and even 9.0 but none of that works. How do i enable gore and still have no crashes?

    Just got this game for pc and I’m trying this right now I sure hope this works because the game wasn’t playable with the stretched out graphics blocking my view like I made it out of my house but couldn’t get to where I was ment to go and I guess I died or some thing and had to start back in my house. Will update this comment if it fixes for me or not. Didn’t help me I may have did something wrong 😢😭 I may never get to play
