Hi my name is Dave Andrews and today I am
going to show you how to stop computer freezing. Let’s go to our computer and there is nothing
more frustrating than when your computer just locks up on you and programs stop responding.
So say I have a program open right here and it is frozen up, it is not letting me click
on anything it is just flat locked up. I want to close out that program and restart it so
what I am going to do is down here on my task bar somewhere I am going to right click in
a blank area and I am going to pull up what is called the task manager and the task manager
shows a list of all the programs that are running on your pc and if this computer program
actually was locked up it would have something like not responding or something like that
showing. Let’s just click on that and press end task and that closed out the computer
program and as you can see it is no longer running here. Now that kind of fixes that
after it is frozen, how can I stop that from freezing in the future. Well typically when
you have a program freeze up it is because it is competing with resources for other programs
or it is usually some sort of software program but I am going to show you how to get a list
of some of the programs running in the background that could be competing with that program.
Click on your start program and go up to run on yours or on Windows XP and on Vista I am
just going to type in MS Config here in the search bar and click on MS Config which is
Microsoft Config and on Vista you have to be an administrator to run it so I am going
to say continue and what I am interested in is the start up task. This is a list of all
the programs that run when my computer starts up and as you can see there is a bunch of
them so the programs that I run are going to be competing with all of these programs
for resources while they are running so what I want to do is just uncheck the ones that
I know I am not going to use or I don’t know what they are, don’t need them, I’m just going
to uncheck them and once I am done unchecking the ones that I know I don’t want I am just
going to scroll down to the bottom and click o’kay. Now it is going to then ask if you
want to go ahead and reboot and make those changes permanent and you can do so by clicking
on restart or if you have to continue using your computer you can hit exit without restart
which will allow you to continue using your computer and those changes will take place
the next time you reboot. My name is Dave Andrews and I’ve just showed you how to stop
a computer from freezing.

@AnonHateMachine There could be a short cut like crtl alt delete which automatically shuts down your computer.

You make the most crappiest guides ever, I know everything you show in your videos. And I would stop watching but you crap videos keep coming up. I can show way better ways than you. I think I might actually, I know I would gather more than enough information to help people than you.

Dave, thank you for your willingness to share some tech tips with those of us who are not what you would call computer literate. I can see how this technique works when you open a program such as Adobe Photoshop 7 and the computer hoses up. However, say I was watching a YouTube video and the computer freeze and starts to hum. I cannot even move the mouse to open the Task Manager; and must do a "cold restart" by hitting and holding the power switch. Any ideas on what could cause YouTube to hose?

GUYS!!! If this video didnt help you or any other video, TRY THIS! Wont work with laptops. Okey so first you wanna see where your screen is connected (not the power cable). Is it connected to your motherboard or to your graphic driver? If its in graphic driver, this wont work, but if its connected to your motherboard, you just have to connect it to the graphic driver, how simple is that? If the cable doesnt fit to your graphic driver, you have to look for an adapter. Im not sure what was it called but it might have been "VGA adapter", and then you just connect that and the cable of the screen and to the Graphic driver

The End Task in task manager hardly works when the computer is frozen, and in fact sometimes task manager itself freezes, Even when you click End Now it still takes a long time before it finally ends the programme. Most of the time it simply does not work. so logging of in task manager seems to work better. Obviously you will need to log back on. If you have stuff you need to save then I guess you best close all other programmes and wait till computer works again so you can save your work.

if your laptop freezing . specially while playing games. try troubleshooting it with safemode, System configuration, check diagnostic startup. then reboot. and test the game that freezes. if the game not freezes. theres something on your services. so figure it out with yourself and start troubleshooting with it. this happens me before. and i fixed it.

You are talking about a computer "hang" where you can use task manager, a freeze locks everything even your mouse and task manager.

There is a significant difference between the terms “crash”, “hang”, and “freeze”, and knowing and understanding the difference can help you find solutions to programs more quickly.

    Crash
A crash is when a software program stops working and then closes. When this occurs, Windows usually creates an entry in the event log to help diagnose the problem.

    Hang
A hang is when a software program becomes unresponsive. If you open the Windows task manager, the program still displays in the task manager, but doesn't consume high CPU power and doesn’t serve any new pages. To diagnose this problem, it is recommended that you find the dump file created by Windows.

    Freeze
A freeze is when a software program stops functioning and cannot perform any functions. Usually there are no error messages that display, but the program remains visible. To diagnose this problem, it is recommended that you find the dump file created by Windows.
